All laptops have a keyboard, a touchpad and a numeric keypad. However, from an ergonomic point of view, typing on a laptop on a daily basis using these tools, is not optimal.  The keys are all concentrated in a very concise space, raised above the work surface due to the thickness of the computer. To activate the keys, the user has to bend forward and stress the fingers and hand muscles when operating the keys implying ulnar deviation. This posture leads to the development of Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI) and specifically pathologies related to the carpal tunnel, hand, neck and back.

Dissociating computer tools by making them mobile and independent but still connected to it, significantly increases workstation’s comfort and ergonomics. In this configuration, the user no longer adapts to the tools but the tools to the user. The tools adapt and respond to user’s requirements, morphology and needs. The computer is therefore placed at the right distance, the screen away from the eyes, improving both the seating (with the back at the bottom of the seat) and the ergonomics with an economy of movement (tools close to the hands).

Concentrating movements in a small area, allows a more pleasant and less tiring work experience as everything is within reach and in user’s field of vision. This particular feature of the Dito combo is twofold: providing control of 2 computer tools in 1 single product and making them mobile in order to place them freely according to the performed task. On one hand, the numeric keypad has the essential keys for working on a spreadsheet or text, and on the other hand, the touchpad offers a wide range of functions with several combinations of hand gestures.

The touchpad aims at replacing the traditional mouse or the touchpad of the laptop. It can also be used in addition to any other pointing device to vary movements and eliminate repetitive gestures. This touchpad and numeric keypad combo can be used on a desktop computer for tasks that require cursor control at the fingertips. It is also very useful for certain disabilities when fingers use is impossible but hand mobility still exits. In other words, the Dito offers both an extension and an alternative to increase the customization of the workstation for productive and efficient work.
